Its especially interesting to contrast the Rabbis' version of the Septuagint translation with the story told by the Jews of Alexandria themselves in the Letter of Aristeas, which celebrates the translation as a great work of literature and leaves out all the confrontational stuff about Ptolemy in the Gemara. Translation politics were radically different to the locals and to the rabbis watching from afar.Yehudahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08794622144574925240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9030466169805301132.post-89981114610558986342007-10-23T15:57:00.000-07:002007-10-23T15:57:00.000-07:00Just talking about the Greek translation itself? ...Just talking about the Greek translation itself? Non-canonical in many Jewish settings, to be sure, but clearly wouldn't be heretical to talk about these passages in the gemara!EMThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05785903047024077129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9030466169805301132.post-60257983364011211432007-10-23T15:45:00.000-07:002007-10-23T15:45:00.000-07:00Rabbi Ishmael talks about the Greek translation.
